You can easily learn how to make money blogging with just a bit of reading and learning about how to set up a blog and then figure out what to write about.

My favorite blogging platform is of course wordpress.   You can start learning about wordpress and blogging for free just by setting up a free blog at www.wordpress.com.  It is a start but there is so much more to a full self-hosted wordpress blog that is necessary if you want to make money blogging.

First of all do your research and find out what people are looking for as far as information.  Niche blogging is what you will be doing – writing about a topic that people are interested in and using things like affiliate programs and Google Adsense to make money with your blog.   First take about 3 to 5 topics or areas of interest that you have and start seeing what people out there are needing.  You need to research the keywords and see what people are searching for in relation to your topic.   You can start with this free Google Keyword Research tool.  It will give you an idea of how many people are searching for a particular word.  You can also then look at places like ezinearticles.com which is an article marketing site where people post articles just to promote their sites.  You can go to any section and click on a page and then at the bottom of the page it will show you a list of the most popular articles.  These are the articles that people are reading and finding using keywords.  Also look on places like ebay.com and amazon.com and find their most popular products pages in each section.   The brainstorming process is a combination of statistics and part guts – what are you passionate about?  What are you interested in?   And then taking it and making it into a profitable niche so you can figure out how to make money blogging.  After you pick a potentially profitable niche you will also use the keywords that you found to pick a domain name.  The best domain name will be a combination of what information your site will provide and what you offer.  A simple and direct domain name that includes your keywords will get faster results.

Wordpress will make your work of getting your website found which is the key to your success.  You will need to learn about how to set up a blog and get yourself a server to set it up on.  I recommend www.ez-web-hosting.com, www.hostgator.com as the main two wordpress hosts.  They have an easy to install version of wordpress.  I use hostgator.com
to start my blog and then when it starts making money I move it to www.ez-web-hosting.com.   You can host multiple blogs on hostgator.com for one low price.  The problem is that they don’t do backups of your site often enough and people have been known to lose their whole site.  You can’t afford that so then move to www.ez-web-hosting.com when your site becomes well known enough and making a substantial amount of money that you would miss if your site goes down (and they all do go down for some reason or another.)

After you get your webserver and domain name you will need to install wordpress.  These two hosts that I recommended have something called Fantastico  in the control panel area where you will login.  You just go to the Fantastico section and find wordpress and click to install.  You will install it in the main directory so that it will be your main site so leave the box for a file or folder name blank as directed.  You will be given a login address once you intall it.   This is where you will do most of your work except for setting up  a theme.

There are two main plugins that I recommend that you use for your wordpress blog to help get it found by the search engines:

  1. xml sitemap -
  2. seo pack

You also have to activate akismet in the plugins control panel.  This is the spam filter that you will really need.

Wordpress plugins are really easy to install.  Just go to the plugins section in the left hand navigation bar in your dashboard and  go to the automatic installer.   Check to see if the plugin is compatible with your version of wordpress.   It will automatically install each plugin that you select.

Choosing a Wordpress Theme

You can choose your themes by going to the Appearance section on the dashboard area.  You will have to go to wordpress.org and look for available free themes.  To install a theme is a little scary at first if you have never had a website.   Just download the theme you select to your computer.   You then will have to navigate to the files section of your webhost using the file manager.  You have to keep clicking to get to the file where your wordpress theme is stored.   Go to   /public_html/yourdomainname.com/wp-content/themes and there you will chose to upload a file.  You pick the file to upload from your computer which is the theme you just downloaded.  Upload it to the server and then unzip it in the folder.  You can then go to the wordpress dashboard and see it listed as one of the possible themes in the appearance area.  Some themes are customizable but most will be just as is unless you are a programmer and or want to hire someone to customize it or buy a wordpress theme from a designer.

If this is all too much for you just take it step by step.  The first one is the hardest.  Your host may help you if you ask nicely.   I can have it set up in about 20 minutes but I have done alot of them and learned the hard way!

After you get all set up and ready to go, you will need to learn how to use the keywords in your posts and titles of your posts to attract search engines.  Use the keyword in the title of your post and then in the first sentence of your post.   Also use it a few times throughout your post exactly as you typed it in the title.  Use it in a text link to a resource or other page.  There is also a plugin that will create  a link that actually just automatically goes to your blog.   Use the SEO pack to create a title, keywords and description for your post.  Use the same words exactly and expand on the description for search engines.

Getting your blog found by the search engines.

Use the xml sitemap and submit it to search engines.

Get backlinks to your blog by using article marketing, getting links from free directories and writing quality content that people will want to link to.
